You're probably going to get flak for being One Of Those Horrible Crazy Simon/Nia Fans Who Ruin Everyone's Fun, but I generally agree that GL, unlike most series, is set up in such a way as to make fanfiction that tries to shoot down the main pairing OOC (although...you could make an argument that any fanfic in any canon that tries to actively invalidate the main pairing, as opposed to writing around it, is OOC).

Even though I don't like to read it/look at it, though, I think it's possible that pre-Nia and post-Nia Simon/someone-else fanworks could be made to be IC. I just...think it's more difficult than usual.

Despite my love for the pairing, though, I don't think it's because the pairing is Just That Speshul And Perfect And No One Can Ever Break It Up Ever!!!, I think it's because GL goes to extra effort to show how important the main pairing is to the characters and story.

Of course, on a personal level...I don't have a lot of 'pure OTPs' where I can't stand to see either character paired up with someone else, but Simon/Nia is one of the few. But that's just my reaction.
