I'm also torn on whether to finish Castle Rock. Can anyone tell me if the vampire storyline of Salem's Lot, or the Marsdens, figures in much?

Quite a bit, yes, tying together back history and some of the story from season 1.
I'm enjoying it quite a bit - it's working really well, as oppossed to a lot of other King stuff.

I'm sorry you feel this way! I've had similar experiences with characters in the past, it sucks because it's both a complement to how well the character is written, and that relatability is what makes watching so difficult.
