Probably because he killed Thymilph, died, SILENT MOMENT and that was that. It was very brief, without emotional manipulation. I do believe OP is missing the point that Kittan's death was OVER-THE-TOP because it was an action scene as much as it was a dramatic piece of character development.

The actual moment of his death was brief and silent but the entire sequence (from the moment he is first struck and presumed dead to the moment he actually dies) was WAAAAAAAY too over the top and melodramatic and drawn out. In my opinion. This is part of the reason that I'm so baffled at how many people BAWWWWLED over Kamina's death. It would have been one thing if he'd died the first time and that had been that but the fact that he CAME BACK, DID MORE SHIT, ~*~INSPIRED SIMON~*~, AND THEN FINALLY DIED. It just. So over-the-top that for me it lost any and all emotional impact.
