117. For one, I wouldn't call one person deciding not to finish a series a "punishment," but more importantly than that - Vaughn's wife only lasts about a season.

It's true, Vaughn's wife only lasts a season... which is fine if you were only watching for the Sidney Vaughn -- but sadly, the plot never really gets back that tremendous momentum that was built up over season 1 and 2. Will simply falls off the map, Francie is gone, Irena is written out of the script. A sister appears out of no where and seems for a time to be portentous of something, only to have that drizzle out to nothing. I gave up most of the way through season 4 when it became obvious that the plot was never going to resolve -- it was just just going to be sidelined down yet another season long tangent that ultimately amounts to nothing.

That's true. I personally never liked it quite the same after season two, either, but I was just saying - since that's all the OP particularly mentions, I figured s/he should know.

The sister storyline drove me mad, too! She came out of nowhere and after 24+ years of never even knowing she existed, suddenly everything is "SISTER MY SISTER!!" I wanted to shout, "first of all, it's your half-sister, fathered by your worst enemy, and secondly, YOU BARELY KNOW HER." Ug.

And yeah, didn't the all knowing prophesy they all believe in say that she was going to be her enemy and kill her?

But you touch upon something else that drives me nuts about this show -- it pays only lip service to grudges. Normal people simply find unforgivable acts unforgivable. Yet bad guys become good guys, enemies become bosses, untrustworthy people are trusted in some great musical chair game of alliances.

I like having sympathetic. intelligent bad guys doing evil for nobel causes, and yeah, sometimes those can be redeemed. But there is no nobel cause here, and I'm never convinced the bad guys have any reason to claim redeption, so why is the government treating them that way?

Yeah, I always noticed that, too. I was very wary about trusting people on that show (or really on any show...) and then suddenly they'd die and it would be like "SURPRISE, THEY WERE TRUSTWORTHY THE WHOLE TIME." I never cared about any of the deaths in that show because the whole time they were alive, I'd assume they were bad-posing-for-good.
