Controversial opinions thread

fandom or otherwise.

Not trying to troll bait, just hoping we'll have something to discuss because it's dead tonight.

The current use of "problematic" annoys me not because I disagree with the political ideas involved with how people use it, but just because I think it's a useful word to use in an analytical, non pejorative way to just say that something presents an unsolved, unclear problem or tension. And if people immediately assume the word is pejorative and political, that's impossible.

If you're really against incel culture, the only time you should ever call anybody an incel is when you're talking about a guy who identifies himself as one. You should not be using it as an insult for any guy you don't like, even if you think he acts like an "incel." It's really just a woke-looking new way of using "virgin" as an insult.

Nah. If a guy's acting like he's entitled to the vagina of his choice and the woman attached to that vagina is denying him his basic human rights by not granting him access, it's fair to call him an incel regardless of whether or not he explicitly self-identifies as one. Inceldom is a brand of virulent misogyny, not virginity.

Agree. Not having sex is only one part of it, it includes a whole mindset of entitlement and misogyny.

And a whole vocabulary. If a guy uses terms like "foid," I'll call him an incel whether he calls himself one or not.

And it's not going to go away by tossing the word incel at every guy who's sad because he can't find a girlfriend or even a one-nihht stand just because you think being sad about it means acting entitled.

If people are regularly calling you an incel, perhaps it's time to examine your behavior. Maybe you could consider not launching into a rant about how stupid whores only want to fuck assholes and thus deserve to be raped any time a woman turns you down.

Which is why I find it especially strange that a certain flavour of trans activists basically act the same way re:"entitled to sex regardless of the other person's preferences and if you disagree you're evil". Fortunately, they're just a small group but damn do they give off incel vibes.

The amount of people supporting this for woke points is fucking gross.

If a man threatens a lesbian with corrective rape, it's wrong and homophobic and don't you know you can't choose who you're attracted to?

If a trans woman threatens a lesbian with corrective rape, it's because she's a TERF and a vagina fetishist not a real lesbian!

*the sound of a million people reblogging DIE, TERFS, DIE! memes*

Another word for TERFS is women. You are advocating for killing women.

I feel like I've aged a thousand years in the last few months.

A surprising number of "incel" advocates are not actually celibate, they're just misogynistic trolls.

People who put butter on peanut butter sandwiches are wrong.

People do what now? The only reason I would ever do that is if I went full Elvis and made a grilled peanut butter banana sandwich like a grilled cheese or something.

I've never heard of that before but it sounds disgusting.

Agreed. Just the thought of it makes me cringe. I do sometimes like a little bit of salted butter on a piece of toast and jam, though.

I want a LGBT version of Mr & Mrs Smith please. Married lesbian hitwomen? Married gay hitmen? Yes please.
