Agreed, I think that's one of the most legit reasons for two people to break up. I do not want children, have never wanted children, and will never want children (I have known I do not want children for over 20 years and have not changed my mind in all that time). If I found out that someone I was dating wanted kids, that would be a great big red flag to end the relationship because we are fundamentally incompatible on a base level. They want a thing that I will never want, and I don't want them to always have a low-level resentment because of it.

Yup. I'm the same. I physically can't have kids. But I also have always known I didn't want kids. And I don't want to adopt. So someone who needed kids would be as much of a deal breaker for me as someone who didn't like cats or dogs (I am an animal person and having at least one pet is something I need for my mental health, plus loving them is a big part of who I am). We just wouldn't be compatible. Doesn't mean they are a bad person (unless they try to force me or make me feel guilty).

Then it needs to be said upfront irl and preferably in media.
Not used as a lol at least we didn't kill Maggie we just made Alex baby rabid out of the blue so they have to break up because babies are the best.
There are other examples of this shitty trope but this one sucked ass for the superbly crap way it was handled.
