Agree. I mean - the Watch and Ankh-Morpork are big and diverse enough, they could add characters and cast anyone and everyone. Changing the established characters so radically is a bummer, and I'm not too gung ho about it. At the very least, it smacks of them not really getting the books and trying to update or 'fix' them in a way that is unnecessary.
