I think there are *lots* of characters anyone with a heavier build would be ideal to play, but since I don't know what fandoms you're in, it's difficult to give any hints.
The thing is, in general, I think people should cosplay whatever they feel like, and if it's done with love & affection, it *will* be awesome, regardless of body shape or gender.
And where did the FUN go -- it's all SRS BZNZ wherever I turn. I hate it.

Just find/make costumes that fit you! Do you know anyone who sews? Fat chicks can pull off skinny characters if they do it right. And the big boobs are great for a lot of bosom-y female characters.

Don't let this douche-nozzle make you feel bad about yourself. Shallow people are the ugly ones. And in the dorktastic world that is cosplay, no one has any right to judge people that way.

Unfortunately, I'm cursed with living in a country with no conventions and a tight budget, so I'll probably never cosplay anyways... But the fist-bump is appreciated ;)

Honestly, even if you're overweight, you don't need to find a FAT character to cosplay. A solidly-built character (think Jiraiya) or normal-built character who wears loose clothing will do you fine. Male characters are definitely easier than female, though, since they're far less likely to be shoved into sexpot outfits.
