I get why people delete and purge their LJs, I really do, but it sucks when you're looking for old kink meme fills and all the stories you want to read have been deleted.

Especially if the comments for the deleted fics are ranting and raving about how hot/good/awesome it was.

And because the thread still exists, you can't use the Wayback Machine to see the fic. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is why if I find a fic I love, I will without fail copy and paste it into my Google Docs. I know that's a little frowned on, but I never share them (if I want people to read the fic, I direct them to the actual post! or if it's gone, it's a "sorry, can't help you" situation), and that way I have the peace of mind that I can always find and read it. Plus that makes it easier for me to organize things by particular attributes I like from that fic.

Same, I was recently going through old bookmarks and found a number of my favourite fics had been deleted, and a one of my all time favourite authors for an old fandom deleted their whole profile. It lead me to copy all of what I found into my notes, but it really sucks to lose all those good memories, y'know. There's not much you can do about it though.

If WM goes back far enough, there should be a version of the site saved before the fic was deleted. There are times when it for some reason doesn't save all LJ pages, but I've found my way into f-locked fic through WM, so it should definitely be possible.
