And those of us who do have kids and didn't feel it immediately can attest to the fact that it doesn't happen that way for everyone. I always assumed it would because that's what everything/everyone told me would happen. It didn't. The special bond developed over time.

^This. One of my best friends took a while to bond with her baby, it wasn't instant loooooooooove and fireworks. People who suggest that there's a wider, varied range of experiences aren't just saying that because they don't have kids.

My friend describes looking at her daughter for the first time as a simultaneously wonderful and terrifying experience. It was her first child so she had no experience with being a mom and the prospect seemed overwhelming when she looked at this brand new tiny human she'd helped create.

She adores her daughter now, but it definitely didn't happen right away for her.
