Re: Is it dumb to be annoyed at people asking how you are?

Not annoyed, but sometimes I do wonder if they're just asking for conversation's sake, or if they actually do give a shit how I truly am. I guess it's possible their intentions are just to swing the conversation back to themselves, but considering how little socializing I do, I personally can't be picky.

I think what I find annoying about it is that even when the question is more than perfunctory, even if someone is sincerely asking about how I'm doing, it feels like the social construct of the question is basically designed with the expectation that the answer is positive in some way - like it's basically a prompt to talk about what's going on in your life that's cool, and then you trade off and the other person talks about what's going on in their life that's cool. That's the structure of the interaction.

And it's not how my brain works.
