I have a bad habit of rewriting scenes in my mind when I read just about anything. It's a taste thing, but on more than one occasion I've gone back to reread something and get a little bit of whiplash because I remembered my version rather than the one that was actually written;;
I'll actually write out different 'in between' scenes or variations on existing scenes when I get particularly inspired.
I can't actually write a full fic to save my life, but I definitely do like writing, so it's nice to find a middle ground that way, I guess.

OP - I feel you on this, anon. I'm pretty much the same way.

I've done this too before, oop!

(I also 'rewrote' one because the premise was hot but one of the characters had a deeply unsexy name. I don't remember the original/fandom, just that it killed my vibe.)

*original NAME or fandom, that is.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-12 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Kinda related: but I once copy/pasted a fingering scene so I could go through it and search/replace the dude’s name, cause it was a Mary Sue/Male Celebrity fic and I wanted to be nice to my fandom friend and read her fic but I also was super squicked out by the real celeb’s name.

Fic wasn’t even that good.

AYRT - I've done that too, replacing RPF names with generic names. Sorry to hear the fic was cringey even apart from that. :/

A++ WINNING

OP - Hee! Thank you, anon. :)

Creating custom drawerfic? Nothing wrong with that!

I've done similar stuff before, although for me it's mostly correcting basic SPAG mistakes that take me out of the story or changing some words I find too unsexy. I've also read smut for fandoms I don't know and, if I really like it, changed the name of the characters to others I like better.

OP - I've definitely thought about doing this before, but I've never quite gotten around to actually doing it. Probably because 99% of the fic I read is for my OTP, so I don't have a lot of opportunities to encounter hot AF smut featuring any other characters.

I have definitely swapped out words I find unsexy before.

THIS. Fucking hell, yes.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-12 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, thank you anon.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-12 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
lol I'm too lazy for all that, but props to you (although I should have expected that last bit in parenthesis -- i have no business in being disappointed that those fics shall remain unseen)

Lol! This made me smile. Thanks anon.

I just rewrite them in my head. Or I imagine they continued after. Usually my ships involve magical/supernatural/physically enhanced characters, so a lack of a refractory period isn't a ridiculous idea.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-12 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
I do this, too, but it's a little more perfunctory for me; it's business as usual. Spending some time with my weird little smut creations is more of a once-or-twice a month thing.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-12 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
You do you, I guess. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to me, but then again part of the reason I write fic is to get the smut I want. So I suppose your way is less work than that.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to me,

I don't understand this statement. Like, it's much less work than writing the whole thing from scratch.* And it gets me off way, waaaaaay more effectively than almost anything else. So...how exactly is that a lot of unnecessary work? Seems like a small amount of highly rewarding work to me.

*plus it wouldn't work if I wrote it from scratch; if I create everything about the scene it doesn't do the trick for me; it's like trying to tickle myself.

I've done find/replace on character names to change stories to a ship I like better! So I get you.
