Honestly, I get mad when I see people doing that, like secrets is the name of the game here, literally. Discouraging secrets that might actually lead to a discussion is not proactive at all.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
So instead, you want to discourage the discussion itself?

ayrt

No? I want there to be discussion, I just see people getting discouraged by having their secret accused to be immoral or something like that, and I feel as if it keeps people from posting like secrets because of that.

Nothing ayrt said indicated that. It's not helpful to just make stuff up and assign it to people just because it suits your argument better than what they actually said.

... No??

There's a HUGE difference between 'I disagree with your unpopular opinion' and 'your opinion makes you a bad person' or 'no one else thinks that'-- those things discourage discussion. Disagreement does not.

The problem is, you can't win. If you post an unpopular opinion as a secret, people get mad at you. If you post an opinion that isn't unpopular, there's always some spoilsport who questions why it's a secret because after all, it's not an unpopular opinion!

Very true. I hate that too, like just because it's not a secret to one person that doesn't mean it can't be to another. It sucks!

And frankly, I think it's rude. If you don't like it secret or it bores you, move on. There's no need to pester the OP and make them feel like they were wrong to submit it.

Exactly right!
