I will NEVER understand the liberal obsession with deliberately hunting down conservative groups to laugh at them/mock them/troll them. EVER.

I mean, damn, quite a few conservative comms I'm in have closed membership of this. Yet guess who the bad guys are? Not the idiots joining for the lulz, but the people who don't want to be mocked.

And LJ won't do a damn thing about the trolls who just copy or screencap posts over to comms for mockery.

YOU DISGUST ME SIR/MA'AM. GOOD DAY.

I won't even start on the people who are all "I am saddened by the existence of such a comm." IT'S THE INTERNET. IF YOU THINK OF IT, THEN SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE, IT EXISTS AND THERE IS PORN OF IT.

Re: 107

[identity profile] lapoix.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Though I agree that it's stupid to join a comm just to be a dick about it, I don't think that it's a purely "liberal obsession". Plenty of conservatives out there do the same thing - it's less a matter of people's politics making them dicks, but people being dicks because they're just dicks.

Re: 107

(Anonymous) 2008-11-01 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
IAWTC. Yes, it's dickish, but people of all political persuasions do this, not just liberals.

Re: 107

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
As a Democrat, I can tell you that I do not do that, and I think it's a ridiculous hobby. Obviously, everyone is free to do whatever they want on the net, but this whole 'I'm saddened there are Republicans' honestly boggles my mind.

Our society couldn't exist with only one view-point. And there are idiotic liberals just as there are idiotic conservatives. There are a lot of politicians I really dislike, even hate, but I don't hate people for their political leanings.

Being American (in my view) should be about both disagreement and acceptance. Fighting for what you believe in, but not berating others for what they believe in (provided it isn't harmful/hateful--like the KKK or something). Debate not hate.

But I suppose that's a little too idealistic for the world we live in.

Man... I hope I don't get flamed for posting this with my real username. :/

(Edit: And I'd like to add, I don't think there are only liberal trolls on the net. I've seen it happen with conservatives as well.)

How do you know the OP is a liberal?

Re: 107

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Tbh, my "I am saddened by the existance of such a comm" wasn't about there being conservatives, or conservatives in fandom. It was the whole idea that they would need to make fandom a conservative issue. What would they do, dislike a huge chunk of the Internet because it's against their values? Upon actually looking at what the community is, I no longer have that problem, I just think that uh... I don't see why it's "Conservative fangirls," as it has... nothing to do with fandom. Unless they mean they're fangirls of conservatism... which just seems like odd phrasing, because I support progressives, but I wouldn't consider calling myself a "fangirl."

That said, you know, uh, conservatives do do the same thing. As other people have pointed out. People across the spectrum can be dicks. There's trolls of both sides, and man, if you take a look at the people who troll this place, people being assholes in political circles should totally not surprise you.

Re: 107

[identity profile] sopdetly.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Mod of [livejournal.com profile] therightfangirl here, happy to answer your questions and hopefully make you less sad inside!

I think you're overthinking the name (not an insult, just an observation). The name is because we are (generally) right-wingers who are also fangirls (and some fanguys). Fandom, especially fandoms heavy on slash fic and such, tend to attract left-wingers. And when you have a group of people who most of the time agree on their political beliefs, it can become an assumption that everyone agrees, and that people with different thoughts on politics couldn't possibly like fandom. So we end up seeing a lot of casual and sly comments—or outright bashing—of people, values, and general beliefs that we support. It can get... oh, really frustrating.

So, this community arose. It's just a safe place, where you can fangirl anything and not get dogpiled for not stepping in line with the rest of fandom. We've been politics-heavy lately, but that will slow after the election, and we'll talk about hot celebs and fun shows and movies and blah blah blah. It's just another comm.

The benefit is that a lot of people who once felt they were the only right-wing fan of, say, Torchwood in the world, now realize that they're NOT alone, and people make new friends and blah blah blah. Like, y'know, any other community out there.

I'll finish up by saying that no, dickishness is a human problem, not a problem of any political party. Heh.

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, for one thing, I just have to say thank you right off the bat for responding this in such a reasonable way and so extensively. You're kinda awesome, sir-or-madame. c:

That said, yeah, I think I was overthinking the name. Initially, I really did assume that it was like... a community for fandom that brought personal politics directly into it, which to me seems really unnecessary and divisive, whether done by conservatives or progressives. Your explanation makes a lot of sense, and it sounds like a pretty fun community -- I hope you guys enjoy it! Having other like-minded people around is always cool, and yeah, the random bashing can be... urgh.

And yeah, thanks for the last bit. I see that said entirely too much, heh. "WHY ARE _ SUCH ASSHOLES," which always makes me sigh and shake my head whether I'm part of the group being singled out or part of the group the OP belongs to. Bad reasoning is bad; it's always nice to meet those of "the other side" (though, I think as long as we're all human beings, that's a pretty false distinction...) who are just like every other decent person out there across the board!

Re: 107

[identity profile] sopdetly.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well thanks! I strive to achieve awesome in everything I do. :D (And I'm a chick, btw.) And it's only fair to say that I didn't plan to respond anywhere here, but your comment was thoughtful and polite and I got a sense that you wanted to understand, and I respect that very much :)

Glad we got you sorted out -- I think a comm for making everything in fandom into something political would be...gah, I can't even imagine how dull and annoying that would be :P Our group is fun and it's really nice to have a place to go vent when you don't want to piss off your entire flist. Also, we have picspams of hot people! LOL

I think the world could be a better place with a little bit of civility and common sense from everyone. It doesn't seem like that should be so far-fetched, does it? *sigh*

Maybe if conservatives weren't so stupid, it wouldn't be so easy for liberals to troll them.

Re: 107

Idiocy makes NO political difference, you know.

Re: 107

...maybe if liberals weren't such jackasses the world would be a better place.

Re: 107

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I can't understand why you're so upset about people disagreeing with you or dismantling your opinion that you've posted on the internet. It's not like the liberal communities are just pulling up your grad picture and drawing moustaches all over your face - if you think we're mocking rather than disagreeing, don't you think that maybe there's something to mock?

Conservatives and liberals should shoot down ridiculous ideas worthy of mockery on both sides.

Re: 107

[identity profile] shoujokakumei.livejournal.com 2008-11-01 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I like trolling anyone I think is an idiot.. And you're an idiot if you think it's only liberals who enjoy doing it.

As someone who is the sort of person that the right wing likes to use as target practice, I have yet to witness or experience trolling from left-wingers. I don't doubt it exists, but it's all a matter of personal perspective.

And to be fair, the OP said nothing about trolling, just laughing. I read many comms which are about, "the other side," of some view of mine; partially for amazed lulz and partially out of a genuine desire to know what and how the other side thinks. But I've never trolled those comms; perhaps the OP is just having a private giggle. Who knows?

Re: 107

I will NEVER understand the conservative ability to dish it out but be unable to take it. CRY MOAR.

P.S. You're the bad guys because you support things like torture and invading other countries. Fuck you.

Re: 107

Oh for fuck's sake. We could say the same thing about you liberals. WAH WAH.

P.S. You're the bad guys because you support things like killing babies. Probably eating them too, ass. >:P

Liberals don't support killing babies. :)
