Look up NLP, hon. It is learning to use consciously the techniques on connecting to people and convincing them to be open to you that are used by any good communicator. Calling it "hypnosis" is entirely misleading. There are workshops for NLP for businessmen. It works on creating a rapport between yourself and the other person/other people -- just like, you know, any good orator, salesman, politician, etc hopes to do. And if you look, none of the criticism of the technique before this smear has ever been "OMG IT'S UNFAIR HYPNOSIS" -- just arguments that it doesn't have enough scientific support and may not really work. So... you win.
(Seriously. Look it up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-linguistic_programming) before you guys start spewing slime all over something. This part in particular (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-linguistic_programming#Principles_and_presuppositions) is damn interesting. "If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you always got." "If something can be done in ten minutes, don't spend an hour doing it." "Behind every behavior there is (or once was) a positive intention." "One cannot not communicate." "Choice is better than no choice." "Meet people in their own unique map of the world." BOY, THIS SOUNDS TERRIFYING, RIGHT? ANYTHING THAT POSITS THESE IDEAS TO HELP IMPROVE COMMUNICATION MUST BE THE END OF THE WORLD. ALSO CHEATING.)
