I can understand people who disliked the epilogue because the found it too saccharine/cute/cheesy, or for details it didn't include (like the careers of the characters, or changes that happened in Wizarding society). But I don't understand the vehemence of some people's hatred towards it. It's just an epilogue, not very important since the book is complete without it. And for all the cheese and such it might contain, compared to all the problems in the main part of the book, such as:

The Death Eaters taking over the ministry "in secret" so as to avoid an uprising, despite the fact that it's so blindingly obvious that there's no way that it could be considered secret.
The Trio finding out about the Horcrux destroying properties of the sword by accident.
The Trio learning the location of the cup Horcrux by accident.
The setup for Voldemort's defeat happening by accident.

I mean, the epilogue pales in comparison to all that, but a whole lot of people seem more upset by the epilogue. I just don't get it.

Well, the rest wasn't very engaging. The epilogue got a reaction out of you, at least.

Admit it, you only stayed for Grindeldore.

Actually I only stayed for Lupin, and we all know how that ended. :/

Yeah, that sucked.

To be honest, though, I never got over Hedwig and so the rest of the deaths meant very little to me.

None of the deaths - except Lupin's - really meant anything to me because half the time they seemed so random. I actually wondered, "Did she pick the names out of a hat or what?"

I wouldn't be surprised if she did, but I also don't think that's a bad thing. Random death is kind of the point. They're not killing people with rhyme or reason.

The epilogue was sort of the cherry on top of the fail sundae. *grimaces*

I sort of agree. It's a crappy ending to a crappy book -how could anyone really expect anything else?
