I feel the same way. Like you, I love Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter but the cast change also came with a disconcerting characterization change. You definitely had more sexual tension between the younger versions of Elizabeth and Philip. Elizabeth has more of a sense of humor now (which I guess you could argue comes with age) but like you said, less of that steely-eyed coldness which I would also argue comes with age and experience.

The transition between the amazing (albeit insecure) Princess Margaret to drunk Princess Margaret was also really rough. :(
