I was in the Project Runway and So You think You Can Dance fandoms for a long time. They were relatively tame, nice fandoms. Have mostly died off at this point, though.

I was a huge fan of SYTYCD, I was never too into the fandom side of things, but it'd probably be better to start with an aging fandom like that one to deep my feet in!

The part of the fandom I was in was the Livejournal community, which sadly hasn't had a post since about 3 or 4 seasons ago.

Ahh, that sucks! I still might poke about it, just in case it revives itself at some point.

Not to be a shitheel or anything, but as someone who associates fandom with shipping and fic and discussing episodes/novels/whatever, what type of fandom other than shipping and fic come out of competition shows and things?

This is why I don't really consider myself in fandom anymore, other than super peripherally if I read some fic, because I don't really participate in active convos.

Mostly just discussion wise. Like about the competitors and what they make, even some behind the scenes takes and all that.

Maybe try Reddit? Their reality TV subreddits are some of the most active TV ones and I would be surprised if RPF isn't frowned on there.

I'll check them out for sure! I've never quite gone down the Reddit hole before, but it's definitely worth a look. I might even find one for some of the more obscure reality shows I tend to like.
