I agree with this in general. I'll also say that even if Elementary never did anything groundbreaking, the plots were consistently okay-to-good and well-executed from a technical standpoint. Like, if I were an internet reviewer, I'd say that overall we're looking at a consistent B+ from Team Elementary. Sherlock, even at its best, tended to swing wildly between "brilliant" and "complete shitshow."

Now, as far as fandom output is concerned, Sherlock provides way more to work with because you've got the potential inherent in the brilliant stuff combined with a deep desire to do better by that potential than the actual showrunners did. However, if you're going strictly by what's more enjoyable to watch, Elementary provided a consistently good (if not always great) experience. Sherlock... did not. If I had to pick a Holmes adaptation to recommend to friends, it's always going to be Elementary because I like my friends and want them to enjoy whatever it was I told them to watch.
