They both got their start playing young roles (and not necessarily leads) and spent years before they were huge stars. The live action Aladdin came out this year.

Being shorter than the desired height is a big detriment for male actors, just like being bald. The fact that there are a few exceptions doesn't mean it's not a disadvantage. Likewise, being a plus size woman is a big detriment for female actors, especially if they want to do something besides comedy where their weight is part of the "joke". There are some exceptions to that but again, the fact that there are a few exceptions doesn't mean it's not a disadvantage.

Tom Cruise was born in 1962. He had two minor film roles in 1981, then starred in 3 moves in 1983 (plus a supporting role in a fourth move) and then made Legend, Top Gun, and The Color of Money in 1985 and 1986

where is this narrative about him paying his dues coming from?

Mena Massoud's first major film was THIS year and it was a huge Disney flick. We don't know what his career will look like 2-3 years into the future, so why does Cruise's post-1983 career enter into it?

Because Cruise actually got auditions in spite of only starring in relatively small movies. This guy starred in a movie that made a ton of money. He should at least be getting auditions even if he isn't cast. Sure, there are multiple factors. But to suggest there is no racism involved is naive and ridiculous.

We cannot compare 1980s and today. Tom Cruise and this guy lived during different times and the system wasn't the same. Who of you even know how things worked in the movie business in the 1980s? I thought so. It's also about the roles. We don't know what auditions he's taken part in and wants to act. If you need an Asian for the movie, you get an Asian. If you don't need an Arab, then you don't need. He got Aladdin's role for positive racism as in he looks the part. Some white dude didn't. If you're making a movie with a white male lead, it's not racism. If you're making a movie with a black lead, it's not racism. See my point? We don't know enough about this to say "yes, it's racism!!11".
