Re: Things that surprised you about new shows you're watching!
(Anonymous) 2019-12-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)All Rise: honestly, I'm surprised I like it as much as I do. The commercials didn't look like my kind of thing at all, but it's way better than I expected. I love the relationship between the leads...I do sort of ship them, but I also appreciate their friendship because a platonic relationship between M/F characters with no 'will they-won't they' subtext is super rare. I also love that the good guys pretty much always win. It's not realistic in the slightest, but reality kind of sucks right now so I'm enjoying it.
Prodigal Son: it's much darker than I expected for a non-cable show and much more interesting than I expected. I'm pleasantly surprised by the pacing, too. A lot of times in mystery type shows things are revealed so slowly that it drags out and I just get bored. But even though we still know very little in the grand scheme of the story, they've done it in a way that hasn't been boring, at least in my opinion.
Evil: the show overall just isn't really what I expected. I don't know what I expected, but it's...weird. I saw reviews that compared it to the X-Files, and I personally don't find it at all similar. It's just strange, and kind of hard to describe, and I'm oddly intrigued by it.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-16 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)I was impressed by that, too. I thought I would get bored with the Murder of the Week plots unless the characters drew me in a la Elementary, but having an arc with mystery AND direct relations to the characters is definitely working in the show's favor.
