I think they're the worst kind of action movie - nothing but spectacle unattached to any kind of feeling or texture or weight or style.

NAYRT - That's your take, and that's fine, but personally I get way more feeling out of most MCU movies than I get out of the majority of action movies. As for texture, I would say Iron Man, Ragnarok, Homecoming, Guardians, and Winter Soldier all have very distinct narrative textures. There's a certain unifying quality they all have, but that doesn't mean they're not also distinct unto themselves.

From where I'm sitting, the only really significant tonal/textural difference between different MCU movies is how much humor there is. And it's usually the same kind of humor, so it's basically like turning a knob up or down.

Of course, feeling is subjective. But they just seem totally empty to me.

This is definitely a YMMV thing. I find most of the MCU movies quite distinct. But then, if the characters seem empty to you, the movies are going to seem more similar, because the flavor and tone of each movie is heavily shaped around the nature and character of the lead(s) - what they're like and where their headspace is at.

Agreed.
