Some of us think there is more there, though. As someone said above, this is very much a YMMV thing. I for one think that for a lot of the movies at least there is quite a lot of interesting characterization.

For example?

DA

For example that very quiet opening of End Game, with Tony Stark and Nebula alone on a spaceship, playing table games and slowly starving and being gentle with each other.

I loved it so much.

And the whole dragged-out conflict between Hawkeye and Black Widow at the soulstone, over who should have the happy life, who ~deserved~ a happy life, and how that echoed what Widow once said about Hawkeye "making a different call".

Both said so much with body language and quiet sentences and the expressions of the actors.

While I don't think the MCU is perfect, there were a lot of scenes like that and I adore the movies for them.

See, and those scenes were such bullshit to me. Like, sure, two capable actors doing their jobs, but it was just so ridiculous given the givens of the universe and previous movies. Tony Stark built the Mark I in a cave out of spare Stark rocket parts over ten years ago, but couldn't figure out how to repair/rebuild/jerry-rig the ship? We know he's a brilliant quick study (Mr "I became an expert on astrophysics last night," Mr "NBD I just created a new element to replace the Palladium core in my Arc Reactor-heart").

They talked about Ms Marvel's importance for End Game for LITERALLY YEARS in interviews, how they had such big plans for her and that was why we couldn't have a female-lead superhero movie any earlier, and then they made her a glorified tow truck AND THAT WAS IT. I spent the whole scene going "WTF" and then pissed off so I couldn't enjoy it.

AYRT:

So I was talking about some character moments I found very beautiful.

And you're using that to spring into a complaint because the tropes used don't meet your expectations.

You make me feel very tired.

MTE, anon. And I agree with you about the moments you cited. Especially the Tony & Nebula scene. God that was good.

It's hard to find a scene beautiful when it feels cheap and contrived

To you. What part of this is subjective and not everyone shares your opinions do you not understand. You asked for examples of what we personally saw as strong character movies/moments. We gave those to you. You don't have to agree with us, but we don't have to agree with you. I don't believe those scenes are cheap and contrived.

NAYRT - but....it IS subjective. AYRT literally just said that they disagreed with you, not that you were wrong. "Not everyone shares your opinions" goes both ways here.

Cap 1 and 2, Guardians 1 and 2, Doctor Strange, Thor 3, Iron Man 1, Black Panther. And while Avengers movies are mostly spectacle and have less time for characterization because they combine more characters, Infinity Wars and Endgame especially still managed to throw in a few powerful character moments.
