Disagree on both counts. Be honest... if you knew that someone had really, really struggled with a project, tried very hard and did their best but it didn't go well and they were absolutely crushed, is that what you'd say the first time you saw it? You think that's a kind, "fair" thing to say?

As for the second, again, no. Mind you, she didn't say that the previous recipe was better, she said something like "I would've thought this was good if I hadn't just eaten a better one" which was completely unnecessary and not keeping with the spirit of the show. I'm not saying criticism is never warranted, but Prue can sometimes be callous with her remarks. Mary knew how to offer suggestions for improvement without being unkind, and you could see how well bakers responded to it.
