(Anonymous) 2019-12-19 12:43 am (UTC)(link)But at the end of S4, they had the big REVEAL of her finding out that Kara is Supergirl, and now for S5 they've gone whole hog back into the whole "is she evil?" plot. And right now, it's kind of difficult to say whether we're supposed to be sympathizing with her or now.
She is doing some seriously effed up things which she is justifying as well-intentioned extremism. Like she's created this brainwashing new program or software or something that supposedly removes the "evil"/corruption/selfishness from people's minds...but also essentially takes away their free will/ability to rationalize on their own.
She has already forced this treatment onto two supporting characters. Granted these characters were both former "bad guys/allies" which makes it slightly more sympathetic...but only slightly. The one woman Eve was basically screaming and protesting the entire time until she reverted into her brainwashed new persona. (And this is after Lena had spent months secretly imprisoning and possibly torturing her).
She is also planning to basically infect the entire planet with this program, and basically brainwash everyone into being "good" regardless of whether they would consent to being brainwashed.
And yet.. Lena stans are still acting like she's done absolutely nothing wrong. And what's worse, Supergirl seems to be feeling similarly.
I mean I'm all for "let's avoid killing cause it's bad; there has to be another way" but like...Kara, honey. Your friend is trying to control the minds of an entire planet, even if it is for a "noble cause." Maybe your sister and Jo'nn have a point when they say that protecting the freedom of an entire planet is more important than protecting your friend and that Lena should have to face consequences for her actions?
