Okay, here's a point that I never see anyone talk about because I guess it's uncomfortable or something, but I think what puritans are refusing to accept is that these characters (unlike human beings in the real world) are designed to be attractive. They don't look like real people because they are fantasy creations that you are supposed to find attractive. And yes, this extends to teenage characters.

There is such an insanely vast difference between characters and real people, and it scares me that people conflate the two.

But yep, this is why all teens in shows like the CW are... NOT PLAYED BY TEENS. Because actually teens don't look like that.

That's a really good point. I think the context of how characters are depicted is really, really important - it's sort of the inverse of the 3000 year old immortal vampire, I guess. I also think there's some downside to the idea that there's this normal, widespread, expected thing where we just universally depict underage characters as sexy and overage, whether that's cartoon characters or CW teen shows - it probably speaks to some very weird cultural expectations that we have. But that's obviously not on individual shippers.

And... You don't find it at all wrong that characters who are supposed to be teens... Are designed for adults to find them hot and sexy???

(Anonymous) 2019-12-19 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how to tell you this, but the world highly, highly values physical attractiveness. Like... it's not like there's some sinister group of High Level Pedophiles in charge of character designs who are rubbing their hands together like "yessss make the adults want to fuck the children!!", it's literally as simple as characters are made pretty regardless of age. And it's not weird to find said characters pretty.

So it's totally okay that people made this character and that people want to fuck her and regularly draw porn of her because she's fictional

Yes. She isn't real. Like, do you think actual kids look like that either??

(Anonymous) 2019-12-19 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so you defend pedophilia as long as people aren't rubbing it out to real kids. I see.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-19 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not pedophila if it's not real kids, period. 25-year-olds with a lampshade on their heads saying "i'm 16 tee-hee" is not pedophilia. No actual babies are getting raped by a drawing.

The original secret is about a video game aimed at teenagers. Things for older teens tend to get a lot of adult fans as well because the stories adults are interested in aren't that different from the ones teens are interested in.

...FFXIV is a sub-based MMO so it's definitely NOT aimed at teenagers. Unless those teenagers can afford a $15/month sub. Which they likely CAN'T. So the fanbase tends to be 20+ if not 25+. Teenagers here are the coincidental audience.
