While I’m on the “adult/child fic creeps me out” side, as a teen I shipped my share of adult/teen pairings and never ended up in a relationship with an adult while I was a teenager, and I think that’s mostly a separate, if unfortunate, thing that happens and is caused by adults taking advantage of teenagers, not by adults (or teens) writing fic about teenagers fucking adults.

Creepy adults absolutely do use it as a tool, though. They know which teens are going to be more receptive to their advances based on this shit, and can use it to go, "See, it's okay!"

AYRT—dude, they don’t know. I got hit on by way more old creeps than guys my own age as a minor, starting when I was 11 and grew instant mega-boobs. I was attracted to guys three times my age and more and I still never slept (or even went out) with any of the ones that tried anything. You were taken advantage of by assholes, and that sucks and I’m sorry it happened to you. Creeps don’t pick teens to hurt based on their preferred reading material, but on who believes their lies because they’re vulnerable.

I personally had pretty much the opposite experience. Guys my own age didn’t interest me at all, but fiction about older guys with teens was a safe and totally std and statutory rape-free way for me to explore my sexuality/get my rocks off.

The few times where someone tried being an inappropriate creep by messaging me/other minors on message boards, the mods banned them, and I ignored private messages.

If fiction about teens and adults fucking didn’t exist, creeps wouldn’t magically vanish or stop trying to fuck teenagers. Your experience is (thank fuck) not universal.

Okay. And yours isn't, either, and just because you had nice sweet mods who looked out for you doesn't matter in this day and age when there are plenty of places (like Tumblr) where it's easy for someone to end up isolated. How many times recently have we seen people using their fanbases to creep on minors? To use fanbases elsewhere to creep on minors?

Maybe it's not universal, but it's more common than you want to admit.

AYRT—there were no mods in my real life and my parents had their own shit to deal with and not much clue how to be parents about a lot of stuff. It took my mom until I was an adult to admit that her dad wasn’t being a good loving father when he raped her and her brothers as children/teens; she was aware that abuse in general was bad, but not in her specific case, and mentioning old dudes being creeps to me mostly just set off panic attacks because she had untreated PTSD from being raped by her abusive shithead dad.

My paranoid schizophrenic dad tried to set me up with 20-somethings when I was in high school, not because he was a child trafficker but because they were environmental/social justice activists like him and that was the only thing that registered/mattered to him. If I’d brought home a 40 year old investment banker he would’ve murdered the creep for being a capitalist parasite, not for preying on teenagers.

Fic was an outlet for desires teen me never acted on in real life, just like the teen you keep hounding elsewhere in this thread seems to be doing. Maybe if I hadn’t had internet access for another five or six years I would’ve acted on my curiosity/horniness and been hurt, but idk. There was nothing stopping me from responding to obscene online messages in 1995, since my parents wouldn’t have known how to monitor my internet use, except that I knew what was fun in fiction could be awful in real life.

Child predators are horrifying monsters. Getting rid of adult/teen fic won’t stop creeps from preying on teens. Maybe comprehensive sex ed might, idk, especially if it makes the point that fiction is always gonna be a safer outlet than RL experimentation. But the abstinence-only nutbars would throw (more) fits and the people trying for better sex ed get screamed at just for showing how to put condoms on bananas, so idk.
