yea i feel this. i enjoy headcanoning characters as gay as much as the next guy in fandom, truly. but i feel like it's a completely different thing to play around in fandom than to write a officially published think piece~ that reaches the mainstream? fandom in general has become a lot more openly accepted, which is very cool! but there's still a disconnect in understanding what most people understand is all good fun and common practice re: headcanons and aus and stuff. heaven knows those arguments go on all the time in fandom spaces already, between people who are all up IN this shit. let alone people who have never even fathomed consuming media more than casually.

the song 'let it go' makes me legit cry more often than not bc the lyrics are relateable to me in a big fat lesbian kinda way. but i also understand the whole personal suppression deal elsa had going on could relate to all kinds of people. after the sequel came out where she still had no explicit love interest i heard a lot of "see! she's just a strong independent woman who needs no man!" which is great and i love. but not when it's followed up with all the unnecessarily harsh "so stop trying to make everything GAY bc it's not GAY".

like please. i am fully aware that i am just one of the sad and sappy lil Gays out here scraping my pseudo rep off the streets when i can bc it's fun and i developed the hobby early so there's no going back now. but it's not like i am giving disney any credit here. if it wasn't for people sharing goofy social media bait "articles" w 18 let it go gifs saying elsa is the gay icon we deserve, nobody would even know there were people out here like me just trying to quietly and politely trying to tend to my lesbian headcanon crops now stop pointing your fingers at me bc i'm not gonna give you any good one liners to take home for your homophobic aunt lisa i swear to god.

anyway! reiterating that i agree w you op lmao. thankfully it's becoming easier to find and support actually queer content nowadays but it's a lil slow going isn't it
