I liked certain aspects of it, but the romance fell flat for me, too. For seemingly different reasons as I'd never considered the potential time differences in aging.

I actually didn't mind the protag making stupid choices. It was a really different choice to show the immature teenager getting a time travel device and instead of, idk, going back in time to kill Hitler, going back in time to save her leftovers. The music and animation were gorgeous. But the romance was so immature and the series definitely wanted me to think they were forever OTP when they were obviously little more than a teenage crush. The fact that she spent half the movie trying to make them not get together because she was too immature to be anything more than friends (thus ruining the time travel device) then we're supposed to suddenly accept that they're OTP is a bwuh? moment.

I'll never be over that they ruined Kazuko's life and the original book's hope-spot ending.
