I feel like Oscar Isaac deserves, if not praise, at least some appreciation-- he's put himself out there talking about the ship, and being enthusiastic right along with fans, he's been very open about wanting to have/do this in the SW universe, and he's played scenes in a way that's VERY hard to read as heterosexual... He's been very genuine, I feel, and he's given fans everything that he could, given how little control he really has over things.

An actor's enthusiasm and attempts at injecting subtext is not the same as the team with creative control teasing fans and then pulling a bait-and-switch, it's someone with very little power to affect how things go giving what they can to the version of a character that they believe in.

But that's got nothing to do with Disney and the Star Wars team, who deserve nothing. And it's not like I expected them to ACTUALLY be progressive, but they could have handled the whole thing a lot better without jeopardizing the Chinese market by actually being progressive.
