124. Woq. Just...wow. I forgot there were people this freaking arrogant in the fandom. Let me translate, please:

WAH, ALL THE PEOPLE WHO INTERPRET THESE BOOKS DIFFERENTLY THAN I SHOULD SHUT THE HELL UP OR NOT HAVE THOSE OPINIONS!!!!!

You acknowledge that yeah, he's not perfect. It stands to reason, then, that his flaws would be just the sort of things to push some people's buttons. Me, Harry embodies many traits that I absolutely can't stand. Oh, he has a lot of good traits, yes, and that's good, because he is the hero. But I see him as rude, arrogant, and self-righteous an awful lot. He'll do or say a lot of things that make me want to take him aside and calmly explain, "Look, you're being a twit and making your life harder than it needs to be." Or occassionally just outright smack him.

And y'know what? Despite your uncomprehension IT IS OKAY that I feel that way, and yes, even--heaven forbid!--express those feelings in a fandom setting. Because those are my opinions. Why the crap should I stop reading because I don't like this one character, when, by putting up with him, I get to experience an amazing world and meet oodles of character that I do love. People hate Draco, people hate Snape, people hate Ron, people HAAAATE Ginny...should they stop reading or griping about how sucky those characters were if that's how they felt?

Yeesh, you know who needs to get the hell out of the fandom? Intolerant pricks like you who "don't want to hear" opinions different from their own.

135. I'm curious to know what you consider Singin' In the Rain, since many of those songs existed prior to the movie, and the script was mostly written around them. Seems to me, it's kind of the same thing. Or maybe that's not a "real" musical anyway.
I'll say this much. F!S has made me so glad that, despite having loved musicals since I was four (but then, that first one was Starlight Express, so I'm sure, being by ALW, or having actors being trains on rollerskates, or whatever, it's not "Real" either), I have never been a part of the fandom, because it seems so disgustingly elitist.

But really...this is just a ridiculous secret. Really.

I'm sure the original secret-maker has no idea about the work of Nacio Herb Brown. If more musical fan-jerks had a sense of history and the use of old material in new shows, then we'd get fewer secrets like this one, and maybe a musical fandom which isn't pitiful.

Honestly, I'm just glad someone else acknowledges Starlight Express as their first musical. It may be a ridiculous concept, but the songs are great and you can't help but enjoy yourself. Come on, everybody's on roller skates! What's not to like?

The dislike is understandable, but the burning hatred and loathing I've seen in some places is a bit much, I think. Especially since most of the complaints seem to be that he isn't perfect. Criticising what he is isn't a problem - criticising traits he doesn't even possess is incredibly annoying (not implying that you have done so, of course).

I loved him from the start because he was so atypical for a main character; he was sarcastic, unsociable, distrustful, and had a fine sense of irony, while still having his heart in the right place. He was a much more complex character than I expected. But I don't demand that everybody like him, haha.

(Oh, and I'm not the OP btw.)
