The part where he goes to the past to become Valen in the end could be true and still fit in with all of the above, it's just never a piece I heard or read about.

Like: Since the Minbari believed in re-incarnation, they could have just assumed that Valen was one of their escapee souls that decided, for whatever reason, to jump ship to the human race (which would have been the part that I remember hearing or reading about). But! As it turns out, it's NOT a case of re-incarnation. It's a case of Valen being Sinclair all along (which you heard about, and what got played out in a truncated fashion on screen).
