Fire Emblem used to be great, Path of Radiance was the last actually good game in the series, imo. I was never in the fandom much, but I dropped out completely after that game.
I'm trying to convince myself to give the newest game a chance, but I'll have to wait for it to go on sale before I do.

You'll be waiting a long time. First party Nintendo games rarely go on sale. Might as well pick it up secondhand.
