Offensive things like biology? Having a personal philosophy on gender, which is less easy to define than biological sex and opinions vary even within the trans community? Having concern for how sex-based rights and protections for women are changing under law?

I completely disagree that anyone should have to be silent about these things, and with the idea that anything she's said has been offensive or prejudiced.

You do not have to deny biological fact or declare women to be less deserving of rights and protections than trans people to be an ally. No reasonable trans person would want you to do that. My friends certainly don't, thank fuck.

If people require total silence, denial of logic, and subservience to the groupthink, then it's not a movement, it's a cult.

As a woman, I'm not losing rights when those rights are extended to protect my fellow women, regardless of how many X chromosomes they might have (idk, I've never quizzed all my female friends on their genetic code.

Trans people having rights does not take rights away from others. Get out of your own "gender-critical" bubble, maybe.

When it comes to women's-only spaces and activities, those rights intersect.

Do women have any right to have spaces to share, or activities to participate in only with their own sex?

We face different biological and social challenges and are all deserving of support that meets our needs. I think the continued pressure to ignore that as a logical fact alienates people who would otherwise support transgender rights. The culture of silence around the topic is hurting the broader cause and dividing people further.

By ignoring, for instance, the biological advantages of transgender athletes, they are forcing people to consider whether inclusion is fair. Universal inclusion without allowing for these differences to be taken into account only adds fuel to the fire for anyone arguing against every inclusion. I don't think it serves the bigger picture.

Nice argument!

And what do you have to say about the 100% down-to-the-genome traditionally biological women who innately produce more testosterone than average (and have since been disqualified on the basis of it)?

+1

What's your solution to domestic violence shelters and jails, then?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-27 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
All shelters and all jails should have more support for individual needs for everyone under their roofs, including privacy, sure. All women deserve that support and protection, regardless of their X chromosome count. It's not that deep.

What Forstater said and did was wrong and prejudiced, and defending her the way that JKR did was wrong and prejudiced.

Saying that is not "requiring total silence, denial of logic, and subservience to the groupthink"
