I guess there's expanded materials where he's... interesting in any capacity? Like I'm trying to give people the benefit of the doubt here, but based on what I've seen just on the screen, I don't get it.

There seems to be a lot of stuff that would probably make more sense if you're invested in the expanded universe. That shit is kind of distracting because a lot of us just don't have any reference for why the minor characters are acting that way.
