people in fandom invariably want the creators who make the media they like to be upstanding, moral individuals to further justify why their like of a thing is Good, and not just some personal preference that doesn't mean much of anything.

i get where this mindset comes from, i just think it's inevitable that it's going to crash and burn as time goes on because very few creators are all that great as people, and some are absolute dumpster-fires.

i saw people trying to make game of thrones out to be feminist for years... fucking GAME OF THRONES, instead of just admitting that they liked it warts and all.

it's not a new phenomenon and fandom absolutely won't learn from it, not with the way i see people champion the new shiny thing+creator they love, until something Bad comes out and then it must be spurred forever bc people acted like it would save the world, instead of it being a silly show/movie.

obvs there are genuinely bad things that i can't fault people for taking issue with and i am not excusing jkr's transphobia in this instance at all, but i do think fandom puts creators+media on too high of a pedestal and it never ends well.
