Re: What hated TV/Movie/Game characters do you think didn't deserve it?

Honestly hers is an archetype I'm personally rarely fond of regardless of gender. I'm one of the I guess few Star Wars fans who doesn't particularly like bounty hunters or smugglers, for example. I'm more into heroes and villains than anti-heroes. Anti-heroes I like are ones that are closer to the heroic end of the scale, not just straight-up self centered people who just occasionally do the right thing.

That being said, she was a well-written character who got some unfounded flack and downright sexist hate from parts of the fandom. And her ending was badly written and Dean should have found out her actual history. She wasn't my cup of tea personally, but she was a good character.

I didn't care if people just didn't like her. As you say, her character type isn't for you, and that's fine. (Her character type is catnip for me, though. Her, Cara from LotS, Kalinda from TGW, Natasha from MCU... I love morally grey anti-heroes/reluctant heroes.)

What got me was the outright hate from some people. Especially the people who hated everything about her but loved characters like Gabriel.

Oh I totally agree. And I didn't much like Gabriel too. And all the heroic Gabriel fics. It was hard to avoid for a while in Dean/Cas fics because they'd add in Sam/Gabriel too. Bleh. No. He tried to kill them. multiple times. He made Sam watch Dan die over and over again. Sure, they worked with him out of necessity. Doesn't mean Sam would ever get cozy with him. Doesn't make him a hero.

Unrelated/agreed, but paring the spares in fanfiction is the absolute worst. Especially when, like you said, the other character really wouldn't be a good match, but people'll keep on throwing them in there anyways 'cause why the hell not, I guess.

I personally agree with your thoughts about Sam/Gabriel. Although I didn't dislike Gabriel. I just saw him as an antagonist that I didn't think Sam or Dean would want to get close to, and definitely not a hero. I don't even care if people wanted to explore that idea/dynamic. Fanfic is all about exploring various things. But so many people were so pro-Gabriel and so anti-Bela, while I saw the ways that they were similar. Crowley too, but to a lesser extent, as I stopped watching the show, so I know less about him.
