To think that some reality show actually changes peoples minds in ridiculous

Well, it does change people's minds, just from, "I'm worthless and don't deserve anything good" to, "I'm a worthy human being who can make something of themselves". It doesn't change horrible assholes who devalue human lives if they're brown or gay.

Yeah, I can see that. I should have specified that I did mean more towards those bigots who may even be on/say something just to be on TV, and have their imagined 15 minutes of fame. They're the main reason I don't watch this show and shows like it, even if it's done in a way to change people's minds, and it's only a small segment, it all just feels so artificial to me. But I'm getting way off topic here... sorry bout that..

The original show really did change my parents' minds. It was on after another show that they watched, so they started watching to to laugh at "the freaks", but they kept watching and kept watching and it became their favorite show. It honestly changed them from casual homophobes to people who I could safely come out to. So I don't know if it changes the people on the show, but it definitely changes viewers.

I'm sorry you had parents like that, and I am glad the show helped them change their minds.
Honestly, I wouldn't have expected that, but I am glad there are people who are open to changing their set opinions they make for themselves. Especially since it made it possible for you to come out to them because of that.

That's so wonderful!
