Basically, yes. In this case, the male character in question has very legitimate reasons to be traumatized (he was the only survivor of a massacre that killed his family, and then he had to watch helplessly as the country where it happened was blamed for the entire thing despite his best efforts to clear their name, leading to a mass genocide in that country in retaliation). Anyone would be traumatized in that situation.
