It's kind of the same with Final Fantasy parts older than 7 (though at least some of the characters from older games still feature in games like Dissidia).

But yeah, I just played 2 again recently and it's kinda sad that the older games are apparently too dated to still be relevant in the company's opinion. Especially since they actually get less and less progressive with every game (yeah I'm still bitter about the lack of same sex romance options in everything after Persona 2).

God, same. I love the cast of P2 so much!

REEEEEEEEEEEE

On the one hand, I'm sad and irritated the first games are almost forgotten/ignored by Atlus and thus by newer fans as well. On the other, I definitely would not like them to be forced to change in order to fit in with the atmosphere of the new games. Their stories were great and self-contained, I really wouldn't like even more time/dimension travelling shenanigans.

Yeah, ATLUS keeps going on with 'new and improved' versions of their games that I'm getting pretty fed up with them. (have been for a while actually) They're as bad as Kingdom Hearts with re-releasing the same game over and over again. They least they could do is be fair and redo them all, instead they just rip off the first game in 5 with a MC names Joker and a lookalike Jun you can't even date.

that's the second game

I like to believe that Tatsuya and Jun are just off-camera, arms linked together and kind of watching/lightly throwing shade.

More people should play P2, ahhh. Both of them, really, but I favor Innocent Sin over Eternal Punishment just a bit. Lisa is my forever girl, Eikichi is my forever boy, I'm gonna ship Tatsuya/Jun til I die, and I really miss the weird bargaining-with-demons humor in the battle system.

I guess I can see how it's not really compatible with 3 onward, but man... it does sting a bit for it to be totally forgotten.

I agree. The Persona 2 cast was the best in the series.

YES! YES! YES. Actually, please do bring more oldschool Persona even if it is... I don't know about you but I WOULD enjoy, certainly, a non-numbered persona (like Q or...) with features from 1/2 a LOT. And please do make the characters come back because I miss Tatsuya/Jun (actually, everyone in P2) + Maki in P1 :(

I stopped caring about P1/P2 the moment old school lovers started tearing apart the newer three relentlessly and treated people who got into the series especially in 4 as lesser fans. It's such a sour association now that I can't help but roll my eyes at people who cream themselves over these games.

I think that's only because those people actually got into the series because of 3 before 4 was out, and had to dig deep for SMT and/or early Persona content in English and so their apparently small cool thing (because SMT was quite the small cool thing in the west) suddenly became big. I was in that crowd a decade ago in a way, but I think by now they've all gotten over it, especially since the first games were remade/new SMT games were released and newer fans finally knew what the fuck we were talking about.
