101. It's a satire show on COMEDY CENTRAL. Of course it's not real news. It's, again, satire. And should treated as such. That is to say, you can still learn from it but don't take it as straight news.
And how the devil is he smug? He's one of the least smug people I've seen on television ever. You want to see smug? Then check out the guy he replaced back in 2000, Craig Kilborn. Now that's was one smug guy.

That said, I still watched the show, and was sad to see him go, until Jon Stewart proved that he was awesome.
