I own first editions of all the books except The Wizard of Oz, idk how that one got lost, but I've been reading them recently. They'd make cute movies (probably have to remove the very sexist dialogue about girls should only x and men only y) but I'd be afraid that a modern director would want to go all gritty and scary with them.

shame, because I'd want to see how the costuming department would create Polychrome's outfit.

That's exactly what most of the adaptions have done. Although, Return to Oz had scary parts and was still the most faithful adaption. It happened to adapt the two books that had the most scary parts in them, IMHO, though.
