They'd say the same thing about "transphobes" if that was the commonly used term

True. But, there is actually a significant difference that I think it is important. Being a radical feminist that hates trans people is different than being a regular bigot. The ideology and motivations aren't the same. It's like calling all fingers thumbs because some fingers are thumbs.

I'm not sure that I totally agree that it's all that different from being a regular bigot. And I think that most of the people were talking about here are liberal feminists even if they're not radical ones. But more importantly I just think it's extraordinarily hard to fight against the tide of usage on stuff like this.

Then why bother to fight against the tide on anything? People fighting against the tide made the word 'tranny' less popular; but you like the word terf even when it's applied with no accuracy (I seriously doubt JKR is a radical feminist) so 'just let it happen'.

It's a lot easier to get people to stop saying a word than it is to change what a word means, basically
sabotabby: two lisa frank style kittens with a zizek quote (trash can of ideology)

For awhile I was going on that being true, and working to educate some of the TERFs in my life rather than cut social media ties, on the assumption that they were mainly progressives in other ways. They certainly started out as such. But the more entrenched they became in that position, the more their anti-trans feelings became a kind of derangement. They were happy to cooperate with the old-fashioned type of bigots, backtrack to very regressive concepts around gender and gender roles, and share propaganda from Christian extremist and anti-choice websites. I watched this happen a few times before deciding that if anyone is that obsessed with a stranger's genitals, they probably have something else that's deeply wrong with their psyche.

tbf the regular bigots and radfems who hate trans people have so much crossover they're actively funding and supporting each other now.

There's more than a couple rad fem blogs going 'whoa there what the fuck' because large portions of the terf contingent are whole sale joining conservative groups to shut down trans people no matter how anti cis women's rights those organisations are.
