So... You really thought "in the good old days trans people had the decency to not infect others with their deviant ideas" was appropriate for this community?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
That is not what I'm saying.

I feel the trans discussion is so onesided that as a young person, I would have been hugely influenced by it ... and for ME, that would have been bad. And i think for others it can be negative as well. Not everyone, but certainly some. People de-transition, grow out of dysphoria, and so on. But that's not allowed to be discussed, is it?

And that's the problem.

Re: OP

If you think that, then sorry, but you're stupid. Or you're looking exclusively at trans people's hangouts or something. There's plenty of "discussion" about that. Just that fandom tends to be a more accepting place where we don't really let stupid shit "Just bottle up the things that make you want to kill yourself, it'll go away." Fly.

And for your TERFy last point, that shit is talked about CONSTANTLY, especially by TERFs, concern trolls and right wing bastards. Read virtually any mainstream take on it and it'll probably be one of those, because people who don't know enough about trans people and our issues to comment on it love to get their fillings in.

NAYRT:

What anti-trans trolls think trans support does: "Trans is great! Here's a month's supply of T, and your top and bottom surgeries are scheduled for next week!"

What we really say: "Hey, there's no one way to be trans, and there's no timeline for transition. This is a safe space, but take your time in coming out to family and co-workers. This is what HRT does for me, but you really need to talk to a specialist and everyone responds differently. And we all have different ideas about surgery."

Too bloody right.

De-transition rate is like. 1% at best, dude. Most people also don't grow out of dysphoria, they decide to pretend it doesn't exist because of conservaturds.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
+1 Bloody hell, that shouldn't have to be pointed out.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
For real, like, do they really fucking think that people just magically decide OOP I was definitely wrong about this and this decision occurred entirely of my own free will and not because of the intense social backlash over not presenting as the status quo!!

Like they're so close to it. They're so close when they talk about the high rate of trans suicides and the "statistic" of people who "grow out of gender dysphoria"

PEOPLE GO BACK INTO THE CLOSET TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE STOP MAKING THEM WANT TO KILL THEMSELVES

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
They know, I think, on some level. They're just happier that way, because if trans people go into the closet they don't have to think about us or acknowledge us or reconsider their views. They can stay nice and comfortable in their convenient world where everyone fits neatly into a box and people who look like X are always X and people who look like Y are always Y and there aren't any Zs.

You don't think there's perhaps a link between the embracing of transculture and the idea that it's 'fixing' gay people - my son's not a yucky gay, she's just Born in the Wrong Body?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Since real-world "transculture" is supportive of the full range of queer gender expression, including gay femininity (not that it's always reciprocated *cough* Ru Paul *cough*), this really doesn't follow. Historically speaking, it's been cis people who have been adamant that "trannies" and "fags" suffered from the same medical problem and needed to be tortured, raped, institutionalized, shocked, half-drowned, and chemically castrated into compliance.

I don't know what rock you live on where straight people are more accepting of trans people than they are of gay people. And straight acceptance of gay people is conditional on being gender-normative anyway.

The suicide risk is higher after reassignment surgery.

Golly gee whillikers, I wonder why OP, who is ever so sincere and certainly not a troll of any sort, has failed to respond to any of the comments pointing out how flatly factually inaccurate their "and then all the teens get gender reassignment surgery" hysteria really is.

Such a mystery.

Yes indeedy.

Went to bed, had a busy few days.

I also don't find it necessarily useful to respond to angry people.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, the 'no true Scotsman' fallacy. No one's ever changed their mind or been mistaken or even encouraged into an action they then regretted; and if they say they have, then they were never really trans in the first place.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Re-read the comment you just replied to. It didn't say they weren't trans, it said people pretended not to be trans because of - y'know - all that violent societal transphobia that concern trolls like OP *totally* aren't fanning, no sir.

Re: OP

Most people also don't grow out of dysphoria, they decide to pretend it doesn't exist because of conservaturds.

Most people also don't grow out of dysphoria,

Most people

Most

That in no ways says no one ever grows out of dysphoria. It says most of them go back into the closet. Maybe try actually arguing the point being made instead of your strawman.
