Nah, Terry Gilliam has always been kind of an asshole who excelled in shooting his mouth off and then whining when his spit bullets went right through his own damn feet. He was occasionally right (see: "Brazil"), but more often he was pulling that Artiste shit that made him impossible to work with.

I always thought John Cleese was more of a self-destructive asshole than an asshole to other people. He's kind of famous for getting bored of things (marriages, jobs) and then blowing everything up. It's gotten him in financial trouble more than once. I mean, unless there's something else I don't know about.

Near as I can tell, Michael Palin is probably the nicest of the Monty Python bunch, mostly because he just likes filming documentaries about whatever the hell interests him and letting the BBC pay for it. But what I really kind of love about him is that his personal life is so bog-standard boring that it's kind of wholesome.

I did know the last part, I've met Michael Palin and he was extremely nice. :)

Cleese’s political views recently have been annoying people too iirc.

Palin was on BBC Radio 2 a few months ago talking about his research on HMS Erebus and I love how enthusiastic he is about everything. But he also talked about how he met his wife and it was the cutest thing. He’s definitely the most wholesome Python.

Of all the Pythoners, I never would have guessed that Michael Palin would be the one to build a solid second career outside of comedy.

Although he's still doing comedy, too. He was great in The Death of Stalin. I didn't know he was in it and seeing him acting again was such a pleasant surprise.

I'll be honest, I always liked Terry Jones, too, despite the fact that he fucked up his first marriage a few years back and ended up marrying someone waaaaay younger than him. The fact that he has primary progressive aphasia and can no longer even speak is just a cruel way to go out.

I loved him in The Death of Stalin. I loved that film overall actually. But pretty much everyone in it is overshadowed by Jason Isaacs, not that it means the other performances are bad. He's just literally really loud!

Terry Jones isn't too bad either, you're right. It is such a cruel way to go. I visited Doune Castle last year (been meaning to go for years, my parents were visiting and wanted to go so we did) and he does the audio guide because of the Holy Grail connection. My dad was absolutely loving it, especially when they played audio from some of the scenes filmed there.

Anyway, it was bittersweet hearing Terry Jones's commentary because of the knowledge that he's so ill now.

Jason Isaacs is the reason I bough "Death of Stalin". He's just brilliant in it, and the uniform and all those medals aren't bad either.

As for terry Jones... :(

Oh, thank god, re. Michael Palin. He is probably my favorite Python (I go back and forth between him and Eric Idle) but when this stuff with Terry Gilliam came out I was so afraid I was gonna find out they were all secret jerks. Michael Palin had such a cheeky yet charming vibe, and I'm glad to hear he's pretty much nice and normal.
