Why even keep reading through?

I just drop them.

OP says right in the secret that sometimes they end up liking the fic after all. It's very obvious that this is amusing to OP (and it sounds funny as hell), that's why they do it. It's not rocket science.

If you feel like you have to get through them, it doesnt sound fun at all.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-18 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But - very obviously - it is fun for OP, otherwise they wouldn't do it. It might not sound fun to lots of other people, and that's fine. They shouldn't do what OP does. But it seems silly to ask why OP does it when they've already stated very clearly that they get some enjoyment out of this.

Again, not rocket science.

And I'm saying it doesn't sound fun. I am well aware people find different things fun

Stop being a twat.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-19 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
That's good, but you should probably be aware that when you ask why OP does [this thing they find fun], it sounds like you don't actually realize that different people find different things fun.

OP

It makes it a lot more fun to read, especially when they're full of purple prose. Reading them in an accent makes them seem kinda victorian-esque rather than just overdone. Sometimes I'm just really want to read a fic with a certain paring, other times (like another anon mentioned) they do have a really good base/potential and I want to give it an honest shot. I just really like reading fic, all in all.

Why do you have to get through them?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-18 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you a beta? Do you feel obligated to read your friends' fic, no matter the quality? Are you in a fanfic club, like a book club, where a group has a fanfic to read and then everyone gets together and discusses it, and sometimes bad ones are chosen? Or do you secretly sort of like badfic?

Maybe it has a really addicting mystery in the background.

Or an interesting premise, and you won't know if it gets better unless you actually read it through?

OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-19 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Sometime's I'm just desperate enough for fic of a certain paring that I'm willing to read through anything just for more content. But like the other anon said reading it like that just makes it more fun and a lot more palatable. When they're really full of purple prose it can come across more victorian than just bad. Though you may have a point with me secretly liking badfic too.

Thank you so much for making this into a secret! (so quick too!) It looks absolutely amazing!

(Anonymous) 2020-01-19 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
do you mean an English accent? And if so, which one?

OP

(Anonymous) 2020-01-19 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I not too familiar with the different dialects of the UK, so I just do a stereotypical 'posh' (RP?) type of accent. I'll occasionally give different characters different variations of the dialect, or throw in some Cockney/Welsh if it suits them. Mainly I'll stick to the characters original tone of voice and just read the narration in my best approximation of what a 'typical' English accent sounds like.
