I assume most complaints are by angry parents who like to monitor every ins an outs of their child's live. I imagine it they did have a lesbian princess they would do in in a way where it could be written off as 'they're just really close friends' by some people. Also there would huge backlash to the people being complaining because there's no way to defend not wanting a gay princess in a way that isn't homophobic. With a fat princess they could try to hide behind the excuse of 'encouraging an unhealthy lifestyle'... It doesn't make it true but it does create a barrier of fault that disney wouldn't want targeted at them.
The 'you're beautiful the way you are' plot has been done before, just not in this way. So while we all know how much disney loves to rebrand the same thing over and over again, I don't think they'd put themselves in a possible line of fire just to sell the same lines they've been preaching for years now. At least with a lesbian princess they can get some brownie point for it.
