True, his direct kill count was almost definitely lower (unless Luke had a truly impressive number of trainees in that temple), but his giant space gun was much deadlier than grandpa's so I'd say it evens out.

Giant space guns were Tarkin's and Hux's, not Vader's and Ren's. Palpatine and Snoke both had two different tracks going with their forces- the dark side power and the technological/military power.
