yeah, this is essentially how i view it with just the OT, as a confirmation of luke's worldview (which i also dislike as a philosophy, but its not uncommon in space epics so whatever), which is why it feels satisfying for vader to change. he's frankly much less a character and much more a foil in the OT, so it also doesn't feel like the audience has been shortchanged on his arc. i actually just said that in response to another comment! to me that means it doesn't really make sense to call it a redemption as such.

this is not what's happening in this trilogy. idk what worldview is being presented in tros. and as much as i dislike tlj, i DO think it had an actual perspective. either way i do think the redemption is set-up, its just not narratively satisfying in any way. ben's a main character, and even with more of a character arc than everyone else, if you're going to go this route with his character you've got to give him an emotional core. WHAT IS HIS FUCKING GOAL?
