why the fuck would I want to have RESPONSIBILITY for making things go right in my LEISURE time, which is my escape from the constant anxiety of getting things wrong in real life

like, I'm being hyperbolic, I totally get why some people might enjoy interactivity, but "hope things unfold the way you want" has a weird condescending edge to it. interactivity is not automatically positive, it's just a thing

Sorry about that;; Honestly, I think I was just frustrated that some people can still be so oblivious at what videogames are/can be.
Like, I mentioned decision-making games because I absolutely adore that type of gameplay. My favourite books as a kid were the ones that gave you two options and a page number to flip to depending on your choices. You are right that not everyone might like that style of game, (I admit I may have been letting my bias do the talking for me there;;) but I do find it hard to believe that someone simply can't find a single videogame out there that suits their taste.
Like, playing solitaire, chess, sudoku, or one of those horrible candy crush games on your phone constitutes as playing videogames.
I just get so confused when people just completely write them off like that.

Okay, but unless your only hobbies are reading books, watching TV and listening to music, pretty much every hobby involves a certain degree of interactivity, so I... don't understand why it's somehow different when it comes to video games as opposed to something like knitting or drawing. You can mess up your knitting or drawing, too. At least video games have save points so if you do screw something up, you can just reload and try again, unlike knitting where you might have to go back and undo a few rows of stitches. Personally, I would find that way more frustrating than just reloading a save and trying a boss fight again.

You find video games fun and relaxing, but you think you would be frustrated by knitting. Other people enjoy knitting or soap-making or bird-watching, but find video games frustrating and not fun. That doesn't mean that one hobby is better than another, it just means that different people enjoy different things. There's a weird undercurrent of "if you don't like this it's because you're not trying hard enough" in this thread, but we're talking about stuff we spend our time and money on for fun. I don't want to spend my hobby time or money on things that I don't like when I can spend it on things I do like, do you?

probably because people are making really weird and stupid arguments (and in a bunch of cases, ones that are flat-out wrong). if you don't like games, you don't like games, and that's fine, but when you start saying nonsensical things like "i don't like games because they're too hard/require muscle memory" (when people in this thread have pointed out that there are a great number of games that don't involve anything more complicated than clicking choices in a dialogue tree), don't be surprised when other people point out that you're misinformed.
